Historically, the Great Pyrenees guarded sheep in the European mountain range from
which their name is derived.  Pyrs are natural guardians - territorial, trustworthy with small
or helpless animals, and intolerant of predators.  Our male, Pope, lives with the does and
happily tolerates our barn cats and chickens that roam into the pasture.  However, he lets
out a fierce bark, circles the goats, and runs the fence line at the first sign of an intruder.
We hope that Roxy and Sugar will work just as hard some day!
