Valued for their lean beef, excellent browsing skills, and ability to live in cold, rugged
conditions with little shelter, Highland cattle are also known for their shaggy appearance,
variety of colors (red, black, dun, silver, brindle, white, and yellow), and even temperament.  
Although their numbers are growing, the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy still lists
them as a "Recovering" breed on the conservation priority list.
